Luigi Antonini emerged as a major labor leader in the first half of the 20th Century. He served as the: First Vice President of the ILGWU, 1936-1967; General Secretary of Local 89, Italian Dressmakers Union & President of the Italian American Labor Council Eloquent, courageous and idealistic he symbolized faith in freedom. With his flowing bowtie mane of white hair he looked more like an opera singer than a labor leader.
